dreams and plans

here is life's common debate: to follow goals in life or to just flow with what life brings to us. Working for almost 3 years since graduating, I have met various differing opinions and points of view or call them philosophies of life.

"We could plan whatever we wanna plan in life, but it's still up to God to approve."
"We set goals for ourselves and follow them all the way."
"We should shoot for the moon for even if we fail we land among the stars"
"Life is all about fate. It's not up to us." (do you really really think so?)
"The world stands aside to let anyone pass who knows where he is going."
"Your destiny is in your hands."
"Life is about freewill and choice. Not fate."
"Life is about decision making every single day. The process of making decisions is the main thing."
"There's two ways to life. We choose to be in God's permissible will or to be in God's perfect will."

Arghh. We are giving fate too much credit. Even though God is still sovereign in the sense He is who He is (The great "I AM"), and ultimately, only if He allows, will things happen, a huge fraction of what happens in our lives is our own Self-will (We are stubborn creatures), and brings about the idea of Freewill and Choice. Not even the devil is can be given than much credit for making things in our life happen.

Again, we say:
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”- Psalm 91:1

I think the crux of this issue depends on whether we understand the meaning of 'calling' well. Most of us have an ordinary calling to put the talents God have given us to its maximum use. That means that we are to glorify God with the gifts that we have, and contribute to mankind in the workplace. We also have a corporate calling that we are all followers of the way, and we should be a good testimony to Christ. To have dreams is not a bad thing in itself, but to turn it into an idol is what God detests. However, as we are to be God-sufficient, we are to lift all our plans up to God and pray that it might be in accordance to His Will. I guess as we know God better, there will be a oneness in our goals and His will.

Hey gal.
Actually i was more like debating on the 3 main pulls of life - God, the devil and us humans (our wills). Along the way other issues like "Calling in life" got involved as well.

According to C.S. Lewis, in one of his books, the Heart of the human is stronger than the Willpower. I don't really know the difference between both. Will read up more.

Haha but if a debate becomes above God, that too, is Idolatory.
